Power your SEO with N-gram analysis of your Google Search Console queries. This workflow breaks queries into unigrams (1-word) and bigrams (2-word), aggregates performance metrics, and exports insights to Google Sheets so you can spot the terms and phrases that drive visibility and clicks.

Use Cases

  • Uncover high-impact words and two-word phrases in organic queries
  • Prioritize content topics based on impressions, CTR, and average position
  • Identify low-performing phrases to de-emphasize in content or internal linking
  • Improve titles and meta descriptions using high-CTR terms
  • Track how thematic terms trend over time

How It Works

  1. Data Extraction: Pulls query-level data from your selected Google Search Console property (impressions, clicks, CTR, average position).
  2. N-gram Processing: Tokenizes queries and generates unigrams and bigrams; calculates:
    • Frequency = total number of times a term appears across all queries (counts duplicates).
    • Queries Containing Term = number of unique queries that include the term at least once.
  3. Metric Aggregation: Attributes impressions/clicks by presence of the term; computes CTR = total clicks ÷ total impressions and impressions-weighted average position.
  4. Ranking: Includes terms that occur at least once; sorts by impressions (desc), then clicks.
  5. Insight Export: Writes results to Google Sheets in separate tabs for unigrams and bigrams.

Optional Enhancements

  • Raise the minimum frequency threshold to focus on more common terms
  • Filter brand vs. non-brand terms
  • Add a trigram branch (3-word phrases) for deeper context
